People we love: The Biblecode Sundays

3 Aug

The HTC girls are all too familiar with this utter delight of a band, and their belting Paddy anthems have been the soundtrack to many-a-drunken ladies nights out at Waxy O’Connors. These six Irish lads hail from North London, combining Irish trad’ music with celtic rock. The result? Immense tuneage that demands everyone sing along and attempt to jig while your Guiness topples helplessly in your hand.

Firm favourites include the likes of “Maybe It’s Because I’m an Irish Londoner”, their beautiful cover of the much loved “Galway Girl” (you may remember it from the Gerard Butler/Hilary Swank film PS I Love You… but Biblecode add in an accordion and a fiddle. A FIDDLE!), and – to Sam’s utter delight – they’ve managed to put an Irish twist on Dizzee Rascal’s “Bonkers”. You can imagine the carnage THAT causes during your average alcohol-fuelled evening.

They’ve recently been announced the “Official band of London Irish pubs”, appeared on the same bill as Van Morrison and Thin Lizzy at the London Feis festival, and for those heading out to Reading festival over the August bank holiday (we certainly will be – glamping boots at the ready!) they’re playing a warm up gig at Gateway on the Thursday before everything kicks off.

Check out “Drinking All Day”, their ultimate feel good tune (and the backing track to the life of the High Tea girlies…ahem) at the end of Episode 1. Happy jigging!
